Throughout the year, whether at home or away on travel, like many of you, I see the world as art and capture it with my lens. I love to reflect upon my experiences through my images, and create art pieces to enjoy, and share with you.
From July 5 - September 29, my art is on exhibit at the brand new senior living community The Fitzgerald of Palisades, in Washington, DC! The beautifully appointed and expertly staffed Fitzgerald is welcoming residents this summer, who will enjoy gorgeous apartment homes, elevated amenities, and thoughtfully curated programing.
I was joined by my mother, Carol Kelley, art installer Henry Cross (Cross Museum Services), and friend and colleague Linda Heinrich (Exhibition Designer, Smithsonian American Art Museum) to layout, install, and light the exhibition, calling on our shared National Gallery of Art career experience. What a talented group, and lots of fun to work with, too!
The fourteen archival prints are relatively small, printed as 7x9” to 11x17” on fine art paper with hand-deckled edges, floated on mat board, and set in a white box frame under acrylic. With this first art show at The Fitzgerald, we enjoyed finessing the installation with creative decisions about how to best install and light the pieces. With their size, each piece required only one hanging wire, and because they tipped forward a bit, it was ultimately decided to install deep bumpers to hold them to, yet slightly away from, the wall. That lessened the shadows, improved the viewing angles, and created a clean look focused on the art.
These pieces span many countries and continents, from Africa and Europe to North America. Each piece is available for sale as it is presented, or in other sizes and materials. If you’d like to visit the exhibition, and see “Where in the World” the photographs take you, appointments are available by contacting The Fitzgerald receptionist at 202-935-5250 to schedule a time Tuesdays between 10am-4pm. Appointments to tour The Fitzgerald are also available!
